With my strong belief that any discussion of so called rights etc... should accompany due respect and compassion for the lives of beloved ones that faded a way in the turmoils caused by the games between Russion Csars' and Ottoman Kings'

The Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (CPPCG) was adopted by the UN General Assembly on 9 December 1948 and came into effect on 12 January 1951 (Resolution 260 (III)). Article 2:

Any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such: killing members of the group; causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life, calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; [and] forcibly transferring children of the group to another group. (Article 2 CPPCG)

La convention sur la prévention et la punition du crime du génocide (CPPCG) a été adoptée par l'Assemblée générale de l'ONU le 9 décembre 1948 et a entré en vigueur le 12 janvier 1951 (résolution 260 (iii)). Article 2 :

Respect the Dignity of Dead Bodies of the Accident Victims

A couple of years ago after an airplane accident in the old Soviet Union, Turkish newspapers Milliyet and Hurriyet and some others printed the pictures of the burned bodies of the victims displaying their sexual organs.

Today Milliyet printed pictures of a gas accident in Africa with similar pictures...

There must be a way to stop this. These new papers can not effort to send people there to take these pictures. They probably bought them from international photo agencies.

This inhuman way of making money is completely unacceptible.
It looks like vulture birds that make their living over dead bodies.

We must find a way to stop this. Pleas, please, Please do something now.

Un symbole est une abstraction d'une chose, un système, un concept, une idée ou une croyance.
A symbol is an abstraction of a thing, a system, a concept, an idea or a belief.

Icônes informatiques, des modèles mentaux, des métaphores, des analogies et des Symboles, Tous, simplifier le tâche de traiter la chose qu'ils abstrait.
Computer icons, mental models, metaphors, analogies and SYMBOLs all simplify the task of handling the thing they abstract.

Symbol est une petite figure, un tableau simple quand absolue. Quand elle est abstraite, il peut simplifier ou déléguer un comportement, un concept, une idee. Une tête de se tailler, qui symbolise la croyance d'une femme par exemple.
Symbol is a small figure, a simple picture when absolute. A simplifying or delegating behaviour, concept, idea when abstract. A head carve that symbolizes the belief of a woman for example.

Un symbole doit être très simple à percevoir et à être capable de déclencher l'abstrait ou complexe

2. Le symbole simplifie ou fait paraître les choses plus simples qu'elles ne le sont.

Des règles simples qui peuvent aider à indiquer si vous appartenez à telle ou telle religion peut aider les gens à se conformer facilement mais la qualité moyenne des chutes. En conséquence de cette base des faits humains qui font les religions sont oubliés par certains.
Simple rules that may help to indicate whether you belong to this or that religion may help people to conform easily but the average quality falls and the basic human facts that make religions are forgotten by some.
Les systèmes devraient être difficiles à utiliser, assez difficile à accomplir des opérateurs qui sont matures et qui ont l'aptitude à penser en profondeur lorsque la flexibilité est nécessaire.
Systems should be difficult to use, difficult enough to bring forth the operators who are mature and who have the aptitude to think in depth when flexibility is needed.

Chaque absraction fait dans la conception ajoute sur la mise en œuvre et de maintenance. Ce n'est pas une vertu à tout ce que veulent ceci ou cela vous imaginer à la phase exigences. Complexité accrue signifie une difficulté accrue par conséquent un risque accru. Il est à la peine.
Every absraction done in the design adds on the implementation and maintenance work. It is not a virtue to want this or that everything you imagine at the requirements phase. Increased complexity means increased difficulty hence increased risk. It has to be worth.

Introduction de l'incertitude au début d'un grand système offre amplement d'espace pour l'introduction ultérieure de nouveaux éléments ou la redéfinition d'entre eux, peut-il être une croyance religieuse système ou un moderne fly-by-wire avion.
Introduction of uncertainity at the beginning of a large system provides ample space for later introduction of new elements or redefinition of them, may it be a religious belief system or a modern fly-by-wire aircraft.

Bahsettiğim camii Kanuni Sutan Süleyman'ın Sadrazamı Rüstem Paşa
tarafından Süleymaniye Camiinin önüne yaptırılmış, tek minareli, uzaktan bakınca
küçük bir şey ve sahilde Tahtakalenin göbeğinde... Sanki Süleymaniye'nin
ulviliğine karşın onun ayakları yerde, hayatın içinde...

İtina ile hesaplanmış bir alçak gönüllülük var. Süleymaniye'nin görüntüsünü

değil mi? Gülen'in Papa'ya boş bir kase hediye etmesi ne kadar anlamlı bir davranıştı.

I am amazed how much many succesful enterprises in the West including top 10 universities in US stress the importance of 'persistence and perseverence'. But I got even more amazed when I read the below section of the Bible...

Exaggeration causes the erosion of the Turkish language. Some words have no longer the meaning that they have been created for as the time passes. For example, the use of the word ‘shock’ has gained a new meaning and many popular news casts use this word more than once each day.
L'exagération cause l'érosion de la langue turque. Quelques mots n'ont plus la signification qu'ils ont été créés pour pendant que le temps passe. Par exemple, l'utilisation du mot, shock `a gagné une nouvelle signification et beaucoup de bulletins d'informations populaires emploient ce mot plus d'une fois chaque jour.

The loss of the word that is attributed to a concept causes that concept to loss its boundaries and content. Hence exaggeration causes the erosion of concepts also…
La perte du mot qui est attribué aux causes d'un concept qui concept à la perte ses frontières et contenu. Par conséquent l'exagération cause l'érosion des concepts également…

The news papers, such as Milliyet, Hürriyet etc. driven by the so called ‘wild’ capitalist intentions. They feel the urge to put a news header for each day as large as the header they would have put for the death of Mustafa Kemal ATATÜRK today. The erosion of the functionality of news papers caused by exaggeration can also be observed here. The news papers have no more power to express the importance of ‘really’ important events. They have already used their capacity to express for the sake of making a couple of more bucks…
Les journaux, tels que Milliyet, Hürriyet etc. conduits par les soi-disant intentions sauvages de capitalisme. Elles sentent le recommander de mettre un en-tête de nouvelles pour chaque jour aussi grand que l'en-tête qu'elles auraient mis pour la mort de Mustafa Kemal ATATÜRK aujourd'hui. On peut également observer ici l'érosion de la fonctionnalité des papiers de nouvelles provoqués par exagération. Les papiers de nouvelles n'ont plus de puissance d'exprimer l'importance des événements véritablement importants. Ils ont déjà employé leur capacité d'exprimer pour faire deux ou trois plus de penny…

Exaggeration is responsible also for the dirtiness of appearence in Turkish cities. Buildings are covered by the company or shop notices everwhere… If a shop has an advertisement carrying its name the next one must have a bigger one… The municipilaties do not apply the rules and regulations which require a bigger fee for a bigger advertisement. The result is a mess… The lack of drawings and pictures in the Turkish culture increases this mess also…
L'exagération est responsable également de la saleté de l'aspect dans les villes turques. Des bâtiments sont couverts partout par les notices de magasin… Si un magasin a une publicité porter son nom le prochain doit avoir plus grand… Les municipilaties n'appliquent pas les règles et les règlements qui exigent de plus grands honoraires pour une plus grande publicité.
Le résultat est un désordre… Le manque de schémas et d'images dans la culture turque augmente ce désordre également…

Unfortunately, the root reason for exaggeration lies in the Turkish culture itself. Listen to a Turkish folk song or tradional art song. The original folk poet singing his poem with his lute has become only one of the current styles. Big choirs sing the folk songs with many instruments ‘all’ together. The problem is they do this with a single tune monodicly. It is simply an exaggeration of the original folk tradition. Moderation has given its place to exaggeration indeed.
Malheureusement, la raison de racine de l'exagération se situe dans la culture turque elle-même. Écoutez une chanson folklorique turque ou la chanson d'art de tradional. Le poèt folklorique original chantant sa poésie avec son luth a seulement devenu des modèles courants. Les grands choeurs chantent les chansons folkloriques avec l'alltogether de beaucoup d'instruments. Le problème est eux font ceci avec un air simple monodic. C'est simplement une exagération de la tradition folklorique originale. La modération a donné son endroit à l'exagération en effet.

The politicians and higher management of the state, including the prime minister and the president are more concerned about the gains of subtle popular themes than playing a more effective cultural role. Without a deliberate cultural sensitivity in the state, government institutions and the media, the rise of exaggeration is inevitable. Exaggeration is detrimental to the Turkish culture. Moderation based on fortitude must prevail.
Les politiciens et la gestion plus élevée de l'état, y compris le premier ministre et le président davantage sont préoccupés par les gains des thèmes populaires subtiles que jouant un rôle culturel plus efficace. Sans sensibilité culturelle délibérée dans l'état, des établissements de gouvernement et les médias, l'élévation de l'exagération est inévitable. L'exagération porte préjudice la culture turque. La modération basée sur le courage doit régner.

Something right is not enough... Being right is not enough for an idea to be justified...

Une bonne idée doit être appliquée par des moyens légitimes et «droit» des moyens.
A right idea must be applied through legitimate means and 'right' ways.

À l'inverse, quelque chose qui ne peut pas être défendu et appliqué par le biais de «droit»: ne peut être «bonne».
In reverse, something that can not be defended and applied through 'right' means can not be 'right'.

Beaucoup d'intellectuels et les gouvernements dans le monde occidental de critiquer les gouvernements de l'Est au point d'abuser des droits de l'homme.

Torture or even bad treatment of 'terrorists' or activists who choose to act violently against these governments become an issue much more apparent then the abuse of the silent millions basic human rights such as adequate nutrition, appropriate government services, health services etc.

S'il vous plaît n'oubliez pas qu'il n'y en Occident qui, de mauvaises choses ne sont pas un choix, mais surtout du fait de la maladie et la faiblesse des gouvernements.
Please do not gorget there in the West that, bad things are not a choice but mostly a result of the ill and weak governments.

La corruption est un problème majeur qui contribue à ces mauvais environnements ... Un gouvernement qui ne peut pas contrôler et de réduire la corruption est généralement incapable de 'stop' de mauvais traitements de militants.
BRIBERY is a major issue that contributes to these ill environments... A government which can not control and minimize BRIBERY is typically unable to 'stop' bad treatment of activists.

La Turquie doit mesurer la valeur de l'homme correctement. . La valeur que nous accordons à l'homme d'aujourd'hui, est beaucoup moins que la Turquie moderne se donner.
Turkey must measure the value of human correctly. The value that we give to human today, is much less than the modern Turkey will give.

Pour mesurer la valeur correcte de l'homme est essentiel dans la réussite. Il suffit de penser! Combien il est important de juger de la valeur correcte de vos partenaires à faire des affaires? Si vous pouvez évaluer la valeur des personnes individuelles en fonction de l'emploi, vous pouvez établir plus rationnelle et efficace des relations avec eux.
To measure the value of human correctly is critical in success. Just think! How much it is important to judge the value of your partners correctly in doing business? If you can evaluate people’s indvidual worth according to the job that they do you can establisj more rational and successfull relations with them.

Les gens ont de grandes difficultés en raison de l'insuffisance des équipements dans les hôpitaux en Turquie aujourd'hui. Le minimum sallary ne peut être comparée avec les pays développés objectivement. Un ingénieur turc reçoit la moitié de l'ingénieur allemand fait environ le même travail. Notre niveau de vie est faible par rapport aux pays développés. Aussi, notre répartition du revenu est nettement déséquilibré. Cette situation s'aggrave en raison des inégalités entre les différentes régions de la Turquie.
People have great difficulties because of inadequate facilities in the hospitals in Turkey today. The minimum sallary can not be compared with the developed countries objectively. A Turkish engineer gets half the German engineer doing approximately the same job. Our living standard is low compared to the developed countries. Also, our income distribution is considerably unbalanced. This situation gets worse because of the inequalities between different regions of Turkey.

C'est une erreur que le secteur des services est plus importante parce que le sallary minimal et non paiements sont faibles. Beaucoup de travail inutile est attribué à un service de personne. Cette situation se reflète aussi dans le comportement des gens. Moderne de l'homme se soucie de la propreté de son environnement et a la responsabilité sociale. Aujourd'hui, le citoyen turc litters son environnement, sans aucune inquiétude et attend ensuite les autres à faire le nettoyage.
It is a mistake that the services sector gets bigger because the minimum sallary and the unregistered payments are low. Many unnecessary task is assigned a service person. This situation is reflected also in the behaviour of people. Modern human cares about the cleanness of its environment and has social responsibility. Today’s Turkish citizen litters its environment without any worry and then expects others to do the clean up.

La Turquie devrait former ses propres citoyens, et leur donner des emplois de haute qualité, qui paient bien. La Turquie ne doit pas condamner ses propres citoyens à la bigoterie. La Turquie ne peut pas devenir une Chine. La Turquie doit de bâtir une meilleure technologie l'économie et la Turquie se doit de valoriser ses citoyens. Chaque rue propre, qui a émigré de son village, peut-être est une perte de la source de la créativité turque, une nouvelle Yaşar Kemal.
Turkey should educate its own citizens, and give them high quality jobs that will pay well. Turkey should not condemn its own citizens to bigotry. Turkey can not become a China. Turkey must build a higher technology

Asgari ücret modern ülkelerle karşılaştırılamayacak kadar düşüktür. Genel olarak bir Türk mühendis kendisi ile çok benzer özelliklerde bir Alman mühendisin yarısı kadar ücret almaktadır. Yaşam standardımız modern ülkelere göre düşüktür. Ayrıca, gelir dağılımında modern ülkelere göre olağanüstü dengesizlikler vardır. Bu durum bölgeler arasındaki farklar nedeni ile daha da çarpıcı bir hal almaktadır.

Asgari ücretin ve kayıt dışı ücretlerin düşük olmasının , hizmet sektörünün sağlıksız bir şekilde şişmesine neden oluyor. Gereksiz her işin başına bir insan dikilmektedir. Bu durum insanların davranış biçimine de yansımaktadır. Modern insan çevresinin temizliğine bakımına dikkat eder ve sosyal sorumluluk sahibidir.
Günümüz Türk insanı tasasızca çevresini kirletmekte ve temizliğin başkaları tarafından yapılmasını beklemektedir.

Türkiye insanını eğitmeli, ona yüksek gelir getirecek kalifiye işler yaptırmalı ve onu cehalete mahkum etmemeli. Türkiye’nin bir Çin olması mümkün değildir. Türkiye daha ileri teknoloji içeren işler yapmak ve insanına değer vermek zorundadır. Köyünden büyük şehire gelmiş her çöpçü Türkiye’nin insan potansiyelinden kaybedilmiş bir yaratıcılık kaynağı, bir Yaşar KEMAL olabilir.

Quand on ne sait pas quelque chose en mathématiques, nous assignons une variable à cette chose, indiquant par un symbole. Beaucoup de religions sont fondées sur les symboles et les croyances qui se consacrent à eux.
When we do not know something in mathematics we assign a variable to it, denoting it with a symbol.
Many religions are based on the symbols and the belief dedicated to them.

En effet, nous tenons à exprimer une sorte de conviction lorsque nous assigner un symbole à une valeur inconnue, en choisissant le type de la variable qu'elle désigne. En bref, quand nous ne peut pas traiter une difficulté, nous faissons abstractions, l'un de ces abstractions sont des symboles .
Infact we express some sort of belief when we assign a symbol to an unknown value by choosing the type of the variable it denotes. In short, when we can not handle a difficulty we do abstractions of which one is symbols.

Nous nous non seulement contentons de comprendre ou d'avoir des sentiments sur les symboles, mais pensons aussi à beaucoup d'entre eux. Nous aimons le drapeau de notre pays. Nous comprenons ce qu'il symbolise. Nous pensons également toutes les valeurs qu'elle symbolise turc.
We not only understand or have feelings about symbols but also believe in many of them. We love the flag of our country. We understand what it symbolizes. We also believe all the Turkish values it symbolizes.

Symboles service beaucoup de buts dans la vie quotidienne. Une petite photo, un symbole de «l'escalier» indique l'escalier qui mènent à la station de métro souterraine. Ils facilitent notre vie et, parfois, sauver notre vie, comme les symboles liés à la sécurité-incendie dans de nombreux bâtiments. Les symboles ont des fonctions importantes dans la vie sociale. Un artiste pop devient le symbole d'un certain mode de vie ou de compréhension.
Symbols serve many purposes in daily life. A small picture, a symbol of ‘stairs’ indicates the stairs that lead to the underground metro station. They facilitate our life and sometimes save our lives as the symbols related to fire safety in many buildings. Symbols have important functions in the social life. A pop artist becomes the symbol of a certain way of living or understanding.

Beaucoup d'autres peuvent être écrits sur les symboles, mais je vais point à deux points un sombre et un brillant.
Many more can be written about symbols, but I will point at two points one somber and one brilliant.

Tout d'abord, l'une sombre sur la société turque ... Les symboles sont tres importants dans la société turque. En fait, la situation économique et le niveau de vie pourrait suggérer une compréhension plus souple sur les symboles, les symboles de la culture, mais sont beaucoup plus importantes que la raison. La Turquie ne mérite pas cette niveau culturel. Les pays sous-développés utiliser des symboles fortement, car il est impossible d'expliquer les choses à une population sans instruction.
First, the somber one about the Turkish society… Symbols are too important in the Turkish society. Actually, the economical situation and the life standards would suggest a more flexible understanding about symbols, but culturally symbols are much more important than reason. Turkey does not deserve this cultural situation. Undeveloped countries has to use symbols strongly because it is impossible to explain things to an uneducated population.

Deuxièmement, les symboles sont un excellent moyen de progresser un pays, tout en préservant ses valeurs sociales et religieuses. Si vous avez besoin de conserver une valeur qui est impossible de continuer à l'époque moderne, puis le conserver comme un symbole très respecté. Grande-Bretagne a fait quelque chose de ce genre à garder sa monarchie ...
Secondly, symbols provide an excellent means to progress a country while preserving its values, social and religious. If you need to conserve a value which is impossible to continue in modern times, then preserve it as a highly respected symbol. Britain has done this to keep its Monarchy…

La Turquie a besoin des esprits créatifs et de la bonne conseiller pour convertir une grande richesse de la diversité des valeurs culturelle, religieuse,politiques en symboles, de préserver la richesse de son passé tout en ouvrant l'espace libre pour son avenir.
Turkey needs creative minds and good advise to convert a great wealth of cultural, religious, political values to symbols, to preserve its rich past while opening free space for her future.

TO TRANSCEND THE GLASS

Many times that I have stood in front of a toy seller’s shop, had this small boy in me wished to transcend the glass shield and reach out to one of the toys on the display. Although light can pass through the glass we can not. This feeling that you feel against the seperating property of a shield of glass, the feeling of powerlessness because of the inability to reach something you yearn for hurts me deeply. On the other hand, “one should not reach out to the things he is not able to catch” says our parents.

As the years pass by, notices one that our lives are divided with glass shields, a compartment next to another… Sometimes there exists nothing, not even a glass shield between. Somebody new born to this system of life does not notice these ‘glass’ compartments in the beginning, only till he tries to reach something he does not deserve…

To speak is a privelege of this type. When you look around everybody talks. It’s just as simple as happening by itself without any effort… But, when it is up to you to speak to a foreigner, to a teacher, to a supervisor or to one of your students or a farmer, just try and see what happens… One notices that it is not as simple as it looks to speak to others, just like does a small kid who tries to reach something higher than his own height…

Imagine a child aged around two years old! He can understand what’s going on around him. He keeps track of every close thing . He is even aware that he is a seperate being which owns its own life. But he cannot speak… An unseen shield of glass stops his voice to be heard when tries to speak… He is aware that he has a voice. He does not know what he cannot do. He tries to reach out to and touch things that only his words could touch. He fails. He does not succeed because there is an unseen transparent thing between. Indeed he tries to find what that is. At the end, he does find it. A few words come out of his mouth. Something like “mom, dad”… The foundations of the structure which have been laid underneath will help him stand up for the rest of his life. This is the name of the thing that stands between him and others: SELF.

Each person who succeeds to speak lives similar difficulties a couple of more times in their life. The most striking example of these situations is learning the first foreign language. Specially if one goes to a country of which language he does not know well and learns it slowly day by day like a small kid, this situation becomes quiet similar to the process in his very childhood. Psychological problems that may appear in people living abroad may have substantial relation with this phenomenon. If scrutinized, schizophrenia and other similar problems have some roots in this difficult period of life around 2 years old.

Many have English as a second language in Turkey. Unfortunately, as one of my visiting European colleagues has mentioned ‘Everybody speaks Turkish in Turkey, but all does so badly.’ Hence we are a society who can speak the second language not so good. OK, what happens if one tries to learn the 3rd and even 4th languages as many do in Europe? Unfortunately, the number of people who knows this, who has tried and succeeded are very few in Turkey compared to key European countries. When pushed to learn the 3rd language your second language begins to waver, you begin to forget some words etc… When pushing the 4th language the grammar difficulties in every language including your mother tongue may appear… You forget words, or mix languages using French words in English etc. Even worse is,you think you are speaking your native tongue when speaking an other language, your students although benefiting from this, politely make fun of it. The worst, because of not knowing which language to listen while passing people are speaking on the street you may think some Germans are speaking quiet good Turkish. The rest of your life, you hear French, German, English words in the noise that you hear…

Foreign language education is a strategically important subject in our country. Around our country lies Greek, Bulgarian, Serbian and other ex-Yuogoslavian, Romenic, Hungarian, Russian, Ukranian, Moldovian, Checnic, and other ex-Russian, Armenian, Persian, Arabic speaking countries. From the European perspective we have to count English, French, German, Italian and Spanish to name a few… Turkey can succeed against this great challenge by only good organization, planning and specialization, not by acts of good luck.

The complexity of the Turkish geography surrounded with oceans has created the obligation of a closed culture in a single umbrella language and culture. The physical largeness and the neessity to keep everything in order has caused the development of practices that may not be in parallel with Europe for many centuries…

Turkey tries to improve her relations with the European Union primarily for economical obligations. But similar to the child learning to speak for the first time Turkey has communication difficulties with Europe. The struggle to express her own concerns and convince her counterparts to give her deserved rights, is driving Turkey to redefine and find herself anew in the 21st century world. When mixed with the effort to reown her own culture coming from the past, the effort to transcend the invisible glass between Europe and Turkey, pushes the Turkish society to the limits of her cultural and sipiritual strengths. An adventure initiated by economical obligations is having much wider and unforeseen effects on our society driving her to the limits of healthy development.

Küçüklüğümde bir oyuncakçı dükkanının vitrini önünde durduğum çoğu kez uzanıp camı aşmak, beğendiğim bir oyuncağı almak istemişimdir. Oysa ışık aşsa bile bizler camın ötesine geçmek yeteneğine sahip değiliz. Bir camın ayırıcılığı karşısında duyulan bu duygu yapamamanın, erişememenin verdiği eziklik duygusu… Oysa, ‘büyükler’ imizin deyişi ile insan haketmediği yapamayacağı şeylere uzanmamalı.

Yıllar geçtikçe insan farkediyor ki yaşamımız cam perdelerle bölümlere ayrılmış, kutu kutu… Bazan arada cam bile yok. Yalnızca ilgililerin belirlediği ve kabul ettiği görünmeyen duvarlar var. Bu düzene yeni gelen bir kişi başlangıçta bu ‘cam’ kutuları fark etmiyor, ta ki elini ‘haketmediği’ bir şeye uzatıncaya kadar…

Konuşmak, işte bu tür bir ayrıcalık. Çevrenize bakıyorsunuz herkes birbiri ile konuşuyor. Sanki o kadar kolay bir şey, kendiliğinden o an oluyor gibi… Oysa, bir de iş başa düşüp, kendinizi bir yabancıya, bir öğretmene, bir üstünüze ya da öğrencinize, Pazar yerindeki bir manava anlatmağa çalışın bakalım, ne olacak…
Kişi başkalarını kolaylıkla gibi yaptığı konuşup derdini anlatmanın hiç te kolay bir iş olmadığını farkediyor, tıpkı boyunun yetmediği bir şeye uzanan küçük bir çocuk gibi…

İki yaş civarında bir çocuk düşünün! Çevresinde ne olup bittiğini anlıyabiliyor. Bir çok şeyi izliyor. Hatta artık belirli bir ölçüde kendinin ayrı bir varlık olduğunu, bir canı olduğunu anlıyor. Ama konuşamıyor…
Konuşmak istediğinde önünde görünmez bir cam var… Neyi yapamadığını bilemiyor. Uzanmağa dokunmağa çalışıyor sözcüklerinin erişip dokunabileceği şeylere, elini uzatıyor değmiyor. Arada görünmeyen bir şey var. Arada, onu ve çevresindeki dünyayı ayıran görünmeğen bir şey var. Onu bulmağa çalışıyor iki yaşındaki çocuk.
Sonunda, buluyor da… Basit birkaç söz su yüzüne çıkıyor. “Anne, baba” gibi… Altta temelleri atılan yapı ise artık ömür boyu onu ayakta tutacak… Bu kendi ile ötekiler arasındaki görünmeyen camın ismidir: BENLİK.

Konuşmağı başarabilen her yetişkin insan çocukluğunda aştığı bu güçlüğü ömründe birkaç kez daha yaşamak zorunda kalır. Bunların en çarpıcısı yabancı dil öğrendiği durumdur. Hele kişi dilini tam olarak bilmediği bir ülkeye gidip oranın dilini yavaş yavaş sonradan öğrenmek zorunda kalırsa bu durum tamamen çocukluğunda geçirdiği konuşmayı öğrenme sürecine benzer… Yurt dışında bulunan kişilerde görülen çeşitli ruhi rahatsızlıklarda bunun önemli bir payı var. Eğer dikkat edilirse, şizofreni vb önemli rahatsızlıklar da çocukluğun 2 yaş ve civarındaki zor döneminden kaynaklanır.

Ülkemizde çok sayıda kişi 2. dil olarak İngilizce’ye ‘sahip’tir. Maalesef Türkiye’ye iş için gelen Avrupa’lı bir misafirimizin dediği gibi ‘Türkiye’de herkes İngilizce konuşur fakat herkes İngilizceyi çok kötü konuşur’. Yani 2. dili kötü konuşabilen bir toplumuz. Peki, ya kişi Avrupa’da bir çok kişinin yapabildiği gibi 3. ve 4. dilleri öğrenmeğe kalktığında ne olur? Maalesef, bunu ülkemizde bilen, denemiş ve hatta başarmış olan insan sayısı Avrupa’ya oranla yok denecek kadar azdır. 3. dili öğrenmeğe başladığınızda 2. diliniz zorlanmağa başlar, bazı kelimeleri unutmağa başlarsınız vb.. 4. dilde ise ana diliniz dahil bütün dillerde gramer kuralları karışmağa başlar… Kelimeleri unutursunuz, Fransızca kelimeyi İngilizce konuşurken kullanırsınız vb. Daha da kötüsü İngilizce konuşurken Türkçe konuştuğunuzu zannedersiniz, öğrencileriniz sizi şamataya alır vb. En kötüsü, sokakta yürürken yanından geçtiğiniz kişileri hangi dilde dinlemeniz gerektiğinizi bilmediğinizden Almanca konuşan kişilerin yanından geçip size Türkçe laf atıldığını zannetmeğe başlarsınız. Ömrünüzün geri kalan kısmında gürültü duyduğunuzda İngilizce, Fransızca Almanca kelimeler kulağınıza çarpar…

Ülkemizde yabancı dil öğrenimi stratejik önemi olan bir konudur. Ülkemizin civarında Yunanca, Bulgarca, Yugoslavca, Romence, Macarca, Rusça, Çeçence vb.., Gürcüce, Ermenice, Farsça, Arapça dilleri var. Avrupa açısından ise, İngilizce, Fransızca, Almanca, İtalyanca, İspanyolca en azından gerekli… Türkiye bu boy ölçüşmeği kaynaklarının çok iyi organizasyonu, iş bölümü ve uzmanlaşma ile aşabilir.

Türkiye’nin coğrafyasının genişliği bu kadar karmaşık bir dil ve kültür yapısının içinde kendi içine kapanan bir büyük adanın zorunluluğundandır biraz da… Fiziki büyüklük ve düzen sağlamak zorunluluğu Avrupa Birliğinin prensiplerine uymayabilecek uygulamaların gelişmesini zorunlu kılmış tarih boyunca…

Türkiye öncelikle ekonomik zorunluluklar nedeni ile Avrupa Birliği ile ilişkilerini geliştirmeğe çalışıyor. Fakat tıpkı konuşmağı yeni öğrenen bir çocuk gibi Avrupa ile iletişim sıkıntısı içinde. Kendi derdini ifade etmek ve karşıdaki muhataplarımıza haklılığını kabul ettirmek çabası Türkiye’yi 21. yy dünyasında kendini yeniden tanımlamağa ve kendini yeniden bulmağa zorluyor. Aradaki camı aşmak çabası, geçmişten gelen kültürüne sahip çıkma, kendi benliğini bulmak çabası ile de birleşince Türk toplumu olağanüstü kültürel ve ruhsal zorlanmalara giriyor. Ekonomik zorunluluklar nedeni ile başlamış bir macera toplumumuzu hiç gerekmediği halde çok daha geniş boyutlarda zorlamakta.

Yukarıdaki dua işte bu çalışmamın sonucu… Ha, bu arada, aynı hikayede geçen kilise yıkıp yerine cami yapmak fikrinin günümüzde geçerli olmayan bir fikir olduğu kanaatinde olduğumu da belirteyim!

Tabii, bu tür malzemeyi kullanırken teknik açıdan çok sağlam olmak ve ne yaptığını iyi bilmek gerekir, aksi takdirde bu güzelim şeylere zarar verirsiniz…

Özet
Bu makale müzik belleğinin işleyiş sürecinde, beyin işaretlerinin propagasyonunun hatırlanan içeriğe olası etkilerini inceleyecek. Müzik icrası sırasında unutkanlık ve hatırlama sürecindeki kopmaların olası nedenlerini tartışacak. Bu beyin fırtınasında çıkan fikirlerin doğruluğunun denenişi için denek durumları önerecektir.

Abstract
This article studies the possible effects of brain signal propagation on the remembered content in the music memory processes. It discusess the possible reasons for memory mishaps during music performance. It proposes test cases for the ideas produced during this brainstorming.

1. Giriş
İcra eden bir müzisyenin belleği içerik adresleyişi ile çalışır. Parçanın ismi genel bir müziksel izlenim ve ilk başlangıca ilişkin anahtar bellek unsurlarını, ilk birkaç ölçü gibi, hatırlatır. İcracı daha sonraki ölçülere ait bellek kayıtlarına, ilk ölçülerdeki notalar ve onların yarattığı ortamın sağladığı doğal akış ile erişir. Bunu denemek için, çeşitli uzunluklarda parçalar tespit edip, bunları çeşitli özelliklerdeki icracılara ezberletip, sonra parça içinde belirli yerleri çalmalarını istemek gibi testler yapılabilir… Bir parçada karakteristik olmayan yerleri hatırlamamızı sağlayan onlardan önce gelen müzik unsurlarıdır.
2. Propagasyonun – Erişim Hızının etkisiPropagasyon bir işaretin bir ortam içinde yayılış hızını belirler. Parça içinde belirli bir yerde ve öncesinde bulunan müzik unsurları müzik belleğinde kendilerinden sonra gelecek notaların ve yorumun bellekteki yerlerini adresler. Belirli bir andaki müziğin ondan sonraki anın müziğine bellek içinde erişişi(hatırlatış) ve o bilgiyi güncel-çalışış belleğine geri getirişi için geçen süre müziğin beyin içindeki propagasyon zamanıdır. Çeşitli eğitim seviyelerindeki müzisyenler ile, çeşitli hızlardaki parçaları veya ses kümelerini, çeşitli hızlarda hatırlayış deneyleri yapılabilir. Yalnızca çok yavaş tempoda ezberlenilmiş bir parçayı çok hızlı bir tempoda hatırlayışın başarı oranı ölçülebilir, deneylerle.

2.1. Yüksek Hızın İcraya Etkileri
Yüksek düşünüş hızı zihnimizin çalışış şeklini değiştirir. Hızlanışın bir noktasından sonra, görüp, işitip, algıladıklarımızı tek tek değil grup grup algılayıp anlamağa ve hissetmeğe başlarız. Müziktede belirli bir hızın üzerinde notaları tek tek değil önce bir jest (gesture) bir noktadan sonra da yatay değil düşey bir akor olarak duymağa başlarız. Bunun nedeni insan zihninin algılayış ve işleyişindeki kapasite sınırlarıdır.

“Mutlak değerlendiriş ve anlık hafızamızın genişlikleri algılayabileceğimiz, işleyebileceğimiz ve hatırlayabileceğimiz bilgi miktarını sınırlar. Harekete geçirici giriş işaretini çok sayıda boyuta ve daha sonra da bir dizi bilgi demetine, gruba dönüştürerek, bu bilgi dar boğazını aşmağı başarırız.[4]” Müzikte bu çok sayıda boyut diklik, ritm, ölçü, tempo, süre, biçim, armoni, dizi, makam vb.İlgi genişliğimiz yedi artı eksi iki tane ayrı işareti aynı anda işleyebilecek kadardır. Mutlak değerlendiriş genişliğimiz de aynı şekilde sınırlıdır. “Yine de, bu sınırın merhametine kalmış durumda değiliz, çünkü onu alt edecek ve kararlarımızın doğruluğunu arttıracak çeşitli yöntemlerimiz vardır. Bu araçların en önemli üçü (a) mutlak değil göreli yargılarda bulunmak ; eğer bu mümkün değilse (b) uyarıcı işaretin değişkenlik gösterdiği boyutların sayısını arttırmak; veya (c) görevi art arda çok sayıda mutlak karar verecek şekilde düzenlemek. ”
Hızlı bir şeyi çalamamak yalnız mekanik değil zihinsel olarak ta imkansız olabilir. Art arda çok hızlı olarak çalabileceğiniz nota sayısı bellek kapasiteniz ile sınırlıdır. Ancak, notalar arasında diklik farkı dışında bir korelasyon oluşabilirse, yani bir çeşit gruplayış yapılabilirse çok sayıda nota hızlı çalınabilir. Bu korelasyon, bir ortak ton ya da mod gibi dizisel ve renksel, armonik dereceler gibi fonksiyonel ya da motifler, cümle yapıları gibi biçimsel unsurlara dayanabilir.
Yapılabilecek deneyler, hiç ilişkisiz uzun nota dizilerini giderek, yukarıdaki korelasyon içeren örneklere dönüştürerek her durumda hatasız hızlı çalış oranları bulunabilir. Yukarıdaki unsurlardan hangilerinin daha büyük korelasyon sağladığı deneysel olarak bulunabilir.
Müzikte çok hızlı kısımların ortak özelliği, icra açısından icracının hareketlerini küçülterek örneğin yay hareketlerini çevikleştirişi, içerikte ise derinliğin, yani armonik, biçimsel, ritmsel vb. çeşitliliğin ölçü başına azalışıdır. Tek icracının çaldığı durumlarda ve hatta çok icracılı müziklerde de hızlanış kaçınılmaz bir yüzeye çıkışı birlikte getirir, genellikle…

2.2. Yavaşlığın İcraya Etkileri
Tempo yavaşlığı dinleyici ve icracıda algılayış için bol zaman sağlar. Müziğin bilgi akış hızı düşükse bu durum hatta izleyicinin sıkılışına neden olabilir.

Yavaş bir eser semantik dallanmağa, eserin başlangıcında sunulan ve geliştirilen müzik fikirlerinin önce bellekte tutuluşuna sonra da yeni gelen unsurların başlangıçtan kalan bu unsurlarla otomatik olarak ilişkilendirilişine imkan tanır.

Temponun yavaşlığı armonik olarak uzak tonlara gitmeğe, derinliği arttırmağa imkan tanır. Ayrıca eserin ismi ya da yazıldığı bağlama ilişkin program notlarından edinilmiş bilgilerin de tetiklenişine, sembolik ilişkiler kuruluşuna imkan tanır(Bazı Beethoven sonatlar gibi.)

2.3. Hız-Tempo Yoğunluk ilişkisi
· Yoğunluk belirli bir süre içinde izleyiciye iletilen bilgi miktarı, bilgi akış hızı olarak tanımlanabilir. Yoğunluk artışı bilgi akış hızının artışıdır.
·
· Yoğunluk hızı bilgi akış hızının hızı olarak tanımlanabilir. Örneğin, çeşitli doku(texture) değişikliklerinin geldiği sonat gelişim bölümünde dinleyicinin aşırı yüklenmemesi, tematik malzemenin serim bölümünden alınan tanıdık A ve B bölmesi motifleri oluşundan kaynaklanır.

2.4. Dinleyen, Çalan, Yazan Bakış Açılarından Hız
Müziği yazan, çalan ve dinleyen insan beyni ve zihni.
İnsan belleğine erişime ilişkin hız ve miktar sınırları her üç aşamada da geçerli. Bu durum müziğin bütünlüğüne,
Vücut buluşuna (embodiment) katkıda bulunmakta.

2.5. Düşünüş Hızının Ruh Haline (Müziğin Yarattığı Havaya) etkisi
“Bu deney düşünüş hızının ruh halini etkilediğini buldu.
Düşünce hızı katılımcıların kotrollü hızını ya heyecanlı ya da depresif ruh haline sokacak şekilde ayarlandı. Katılımcılar yalnız heyecanlanışa yanıt olarak depresifleşişe olduğundan daha olumlu bir ruh haline girmekle kalmadılar, fakat aynı zamanda depresif ve heyecanlı ifadelerin her ikisinde de, daha yavaş yerine daha hızlı düşündükleri gözlendi[2].”

Duygusal tepkiler içerikten bağımsız olarak bilgi işleyişin dinamikleri tarafından belirlenir. Sabit tempoda üzücü ve canlandırıcı müzikler çalındığında depresif ve heyecanlı duygular uyanabilir. Hızlı bir tempoda depresif ve heyecanlandırıcı şeyler çalındığında üzüzcü etki daha az görülebilir. [2]’nin iddialarını dayandırdığı deney benzer koşullarda müzik örnekleri üzerinde de denenebilir.

Rahatlık ya da kolaylık işareti hedonik olarak zihinlerimize kakılmıştır ve algılayış ve işleyişte yüksek kolaylık olumlu duygusal tepkiler yaratır[3].

2.6. İcra Sırasında Kopuş
“Gerçekte, yazı yazmak eylemi tümüyle bilinçsiz değil tamamen benim bilincime ait bir yapıdır. Kendinin bilincinde değil, o kadar. Kalemim altında dünyaya gelen kelimelerden faal bir farkındalığımı sürdürmektir, yazı yazmak.[1]” demişti Sartre.

· Kontrollü süreçler hızlıdır ve bilincin erişimine kapalıdır. Kontrollü süreçler sınırlı imkanlara sahiptir, ilgi gerektirir, ve değişken koşullarda esnekçe kullanılabilir.
·
· Ototmatik süreçler imkan sınırlayışından bağımsızdır, ilgi gerektirmez, ve bir kere öğrenildikten sonra değştirilişleri çok zordur[5].
· İcra sırasında belleğe erişim müzk icrasının önemli bir bölümünü oluşturur. Yazı yazmak ve merdivenlerden iniş durumu müzik icrasına benzerlikler taşır. Merdivenlerden inerken eğer basamaklara bakıp her basamağı görmeğe çalışırsanız hızlı inemez hatta takılıp düşersiniz. Oysa, Sartre’ın yazı yazışı gibi, faal bir farkındalığı sürdürüp, basamaklara göz ucu ile şöyle bir bakarsak ve kendimize güven ile eylemi otomatik süreçlerimize bırakabilirsek merdivenlerden rahatça ve kaolaylıkla inebiliriz.

Benzer şekilde yoğunlaşış (konsantrasyon) kaybı müzik belleğine erişim ve bilgi akışı sürecinde akış farkındalığının kaybına ve kesintilere neden olabilir.

Aşırı odaklanış ve müziğin kendisine karşı icracının baskınlığı ve kontrol ihtiyacı, müzik belleğine erişim sürecinde bilgi akışının kesintilere uğramasına neden olabilir.

2.7. İcraya Hazırlanışta Hızın Olası Etkileri
İcra sırasında provalarda seçilenden çok hızlı bir tempo seçiş hatırlama sürecindeki sıkıntılar nedeni ile icrada kopmağa neden olabilir. Bu durum çeşitli deneklerle denenebilir. Yavaş çalınarak ezberlenmiş bir parça hızlı çalındığında icrada hatırlayış kopmaları olup olmadığı denenebilir (ya da tersi).

Çeşitli hızlarla ezberlenilmiş bir parçanın ezber esnekliği getirişine karşın belleği aşırı yükleyip yüklemediği denenebilir. Bu deneyde aynı parça çok sayıda benzer yetenekte icracının bazıları tarafından yalnız üç hızda (yavaş, orta ve hızlı tempolarda) ezberlenilir. Bir diğer grup ta yalnız tek bir tempoda ve bir kontrol grubu da çok sayıda tempoda aynı parçayı ezberler. Hatırlayış aksaklıkları sayı ve nitelikçe ölçülür.

Bir diğer kontrolde ise, tek icracı ile farklı parçalar denenebilir Psikologlarında katılacağı bu tür bilimsel deneyler yapılışı hem ülkemizdeki üniversiteler içinde yer alan konservatuarların akademik çalışımlarına hem de bu kurumların topluma katkılarına olumlu alternatif bir yön sağlayacaktır, inancındayım.

3. Tartışış
Düşünüş hızı, ya da bellekteki bir veriye erişiş hızı, o verinin bulunduğu yeri bulmak(adresleyiş) ve o bilgiyi işleneceği çalışış belleğine ve bilince ya da otomatik sürecin ilgili alanına taşımaktan oluşabilir. Erişime ilişkin sinir ağları(neural networks)’nda her seviyeye ilişkin son duyulan birkaç notanın hatırlatışı ile ilgili bir gecikiş süresi söz konusu olabilir. Bu gecikiş izleyişi kolaylaştıracak bir azlıkta olursa çalan ve izleyicinin zihninde hedonik bir etki, memnuniyet duygusu yaratabilir, çalınan parça bir matem müziği olsa bile… Hız hatırlanan içeriği etkiler.

Eser yazarken, seçtiği tempo bestecinin eseri devam ettirip ilerletişini engelleyebilir. İcra için eser hazırlayış sürecinde seçilen tempolar icra sırasında unutuşlar üzerinde etkili olabilir. İcra sırasında seçilen tempo izleyicinin ilgisinde kopuşlara neden olabilir.

4. Sonuç
Bu makale icra hızının, zihnimizde işaret propagasyonu ile olası ilişkisini deneyler önererek tartışmıştır. Müziğin ilettiği bilginin akış hızı zihnimizdeki işaret akış hızı ile orantılı olmalıdır, olabilir. Müziğin yaratılış, icra ediş ve algılanış süreci istatistiksel olarak aynı zihinsel mekanizmalardan geçer. Bu durum icra edilen müziğin içeriği üzerinde hayati hızsal etkiler uyarabilir.

İcra sırasında oluşan unutuş ve kopuşlar üzerinde bestecinin eseri yazarken, icracının çalış için prova yaparken izledikleri hız yaklaşımları önemli etkiler yapabilir.

“In reality, the act of writing is not at all unconscious, it is an actual structure of my consciousness. Only it is not conscious of itself. To write is to maintain an active awareness of the words as they come to birth under my pen [1].”

This experiment found that the speed of thought affects mood. Thought speed was manipulated via articipants’ paced reading of statements designed to induce either an elated or a depressed mood. Participants not only experienced more positive mood in response to elation than in response to depression statements, but also experienced an independent increase in positive mood when they had been thinking fast rather than slow—for both elation and depression statements[2].

Affective responses may also result from the dynamics of information processing itself. Specifically, we propose that individuals monitor the fluency with which they can extract information from the presented stimulus. We further propose that the fluency signal is hedonically marked and that high fluency elicits a positive affective reaction [3].

We are not completely at the mercy of this limited span, however, because we have a variety of techniques for getting around it and increasing the accuracy of our judgments. Istanbul - Bosphorus Bridge - Ortakoy Mosque

The Bosphorus bridge is the first one that connects Europe to Little Asia. There may be other bridges that span the Donau river and thus connect Europe and true Asia also... And we Anatolian Turks tend to think of us as the only ones who do so... In fact the Huns and Attila whom we should consider as relatives had played their historic role much before than the Ottoman's tried to visit some decent cities of Europe...

By the way, I read in a book by Marcel BRION that, against the common belief Attila had gained more victories by negotiations on the table than on the war fields... Funny enough, it was the Romans who 'brought him up' while he stayed in Rome for a couple of years as an exchange guarantee for peace between Romans and Huns... Something to ponder about for my fellow citizens.

Please pay attention to the Mosque on the left... It is built similar to the churches in Venice... Actually, there was a simpler mosque before this one at the same place(built 1751). It was similar to a chucrh in structure... The current one was built in the 1853... It is not known what existed even before the church, as this blessed location would be a very good place for a Dorian temple which keeps its eternal light ablaze for the sea navigation...

I must note that the mosque in the picture, dating from 1853 was built by an Armenian architect from the famous BALYAN family...

To understand Istanbul, one has to take a seat in a caffee on the Bosphorus for long hours and even days and contemplate... One must contemplate at the time, the time... What is now, what is yesterday, what is moving, what is remaining...? What comes from where? What are the boundaries of identities? Are pushing boundaries forth always rational or when are they so? How is it possible to remain a proud one and be a part of universal one?

Sorry, I shut up now... Too much too many too far too short and too ... words.

Les pays de l'Europe de l'Est qui introduit une demande d'adhésion au plus tard la Turquie, sont admis à l'UE avant la Turquie. Beaucoup d'hommes politiques et de citoyens de la Turquie estime que l'injustice ... Mais il a été jugé normal selon la logique européenne de l'égalité, que l'on trouve dans la Bible, comme vu ci-dessous (Appendix 1, Matthew 20).

Je n'ai pas été surpris de la décision que je suis un ancien fonctionnaire d'EUROCONTROL. Mais, j'ai été vraiment surpris quand j'ai essayé de trouver refuge dans le Kuran-i Kerim pour mes sentiments brisés de la justice… (Annexe 2).

Le fait est le sens de l'égalité ne soit pas laissée à une simple personne de décider, Allah apprécie ses croyants selon son souhait… Donc, le point de divergence entre les Turcs et les Européens n'était pas la religion, au moins dans ce cas…

Pourquoi avons-nous des Turcs vexés alors? Même les représentants du parti religieux qui régit? Le fait est que le peuple turc ont été éduqués par des petites minorités et des immigrants qui se sont échappés de l'Allemagne, de croire en les idéaux des fondateurs de l'Occident.

Connaissez-vous le titre de Erich Maria REMARQUE le livre "Lieb den Naecsten" en turc? Elle est "Love the Humans" ou l'Humanité ("Insanları Seveceksin")… J'ai essayé très fort pour trouver mon livre préféré des enfants dans une librairie à Karlsruhe, la ville de droit en Allemagne. J'ai appris qu'il n'existait pas…

Maintenant, il est grand temps que notre bien-aimé minorités et le peu de véritables intellectuels européens de corriger les erreurs tant à leurs propres foyers et ici, dans l'esprit de nous les Turcs. Avant que les choses vraiment laid…

All are equal but not the same.

It is easy for Turks to speak with Turks not only because
they speak the same language but also they use the
same idioms, phrases, proverbs. Because they use
the same reference points.

In order to communicate with Europeans you should
express your ideas through the reference points
that they can understand, otherwise
talking with Europeans becomes conversating with deaf.

These reference points include not only idioms, phrases,
proverbs such as
"All are equal but not the same" but also

many stories from the Bible such as
"Give Ceasar what belongs to him"
in Turkish: "Sezara Sezarın hakkını ver"...

Being Muslims Turks are better dispositioned
in that matter as there are many references (good or bad)
to the Christian religion in the Kur'an.

Of course this makes life harder for Turks
who have more than 8 language neigbors to learn,
such as
Greek, Bulgarian, Serbian, Hungarian, Romanian,
Ukranian, Russian, Arabic, Turki, Caucassus languages,
Persian, English, French, German and so on...

and have to study other culture's religions...

The bottom line is you have to now yourself and
your own religion well...
If you want to do this excellently you must study other
languages and religions.

But be careful,
a single person has a limited mental capacity.

A navigation beacon on the Bosphorus - Istanbul

Having served for Air Traffic Control in the best years of my life,
I played with beacons on the air routs in the ar quiet sometime.

Now, working and living back in Istanbul, I feel I would like to be
a small lantern on the Bosphorus, the water strait between two continents.
A small beacon that serves the sea navigation between Black Sea and the
Marmara, to Eagian Sea...

It is difficult to forget sometimes.

İnsanın Mihengi

Mihenk taşı eskiden altının ayarını ölçmek için kullanılırdı. Miyar denilen bir aletle aynı hacimdeki altın ile mihenk taşı karşılaştırılır, altının yoğunluğu mihenk taşından çok ise altın ağır basardı. Böylece mihenk taşı altının kalitesinin belirlenmesini sağlardı.

Mihenk taşı yerine ölçüt ya da ölçü kelimelerini kullanıyoruz günlük dilimizde… Bir şeyin kalitesini değerlendirmek istediğimizde bütünsel bir ifade yerine, o şeyin kalitesini oluşturan unsurlardan bir tanesini seçip yalnızca o unsurun sağladığı bilgi cinsinden o şeyin kalitesini değerlendiriyoruz…

Örneğin bilgisayar yazılımlarının kalitesinin belirlenmesinde kullanılan yazılım karmaşıklık ölçütleri (software complexity metrics)… Bir bilgisayar programı ne kadar karmaşıksa o programın kullanımı sırasında istenmeyen bir hata çıkma olasılığı o kadar çoktur. Yazılım karmaşıklık ölçütleri program kodu satır sayısından komut sayısına, yuva(nest) sayı ve derinliğinden, belirli komutların kullanım sayılarına ya da McCabe’in kriterine kadar çok sayıda ölçüt içerir. Yazılım Mühendisliği literatüründe bu konuda nice kaynak bulmanız mümkün… (Profiling Software Through the Use of Metrics – Robillard and Coupal, Predictive Modeling Techniques of Software Quality from Software Measures – Khoshgoftaar et all.) Program kodu satır sayısı(LOC-lines of code) bu ölçütler arasında en çok benimsenip kullanılandır.

Aslında belirli bir ölçütün verdiği sayısal değer yalnız başına hiçbir anlam ifade etmeyebilir. Karşılaştırmalı olarak, ya zaman içinde ya da farklı şeylerin karşılaştırılmasından elde edilen farklı değerlerin ifade ettiği göreceli anlama bakmak gerekir.

Basit bir şekilde ifade edecek olursak… Belirli bir konuyu dinleyicilere anlatacak konuşmacılarımız olsun… Eğer en geçerli yazılım kriterini seçersek, kriterimiz konuşmacıların kullandıkları kelime sayısı ya da konuşma süresi olsun… Buna göre, hata yapma olasılığı çok olan konuşmacılar, dertlerini makul bir süre veya kelime sayısı içinde anlatamayan konuşmacılardır… Öncelikle bu konuşmacılarla ilgili tedbir almak, bunların konuşmalarını daha önceden kontrol etmek faydalı olabilir… İlk bakışta çok aptalca gelebilir, fakat burada önemli olan eşik sürenin belirlenmesidir… Hatta, birkaç eşik belirlenerek risk seviyeleri tespit edilebilir. Bunun için ise, konuşmacıların konuşmalarının süreleri ve mümkünse anlatılan konunun karmaşıklığına ilişkin ampirik değerler tespit edilmelidir. Konu tamamen subjektif olduğu için, veri toplamak ve test aşamalarında aynı işlemleri aynı kişiler yapmalıdır…

Amerikan uzay mekiğinde çıkması olası yazılım hatalarını yakalamak için yazılım karmaşıklık ölçütleri (software complexity metrics) kullanılmaktadır. Seçilen ve kullanılan ölçütlerin geçerliğinin değerlendirilmesi konusunda çok güzel makaleler var(Validating Metrics for Ensuring Space shuttle Flight Software Quality - Schneidewind). Teknik ölçütler bir yana benzeri yaklaşımlar sosyal konularda da uygulanabilir…

Acaba insanları değerlendirirken nasıl bir ölçüt kullanabiliriz? Öyle bir ölçüt ki, iki farklı insanı yalnız bu ölçüte göre karşılaştırıp, o iki insanın artıları eksilerinin bütünü hakkında bir tahminde, bir değerlendirmede bulunabilelim… Öyle bir ölçüt ki, bir insanı bir yıl ara ile aynı ölçüte göre değerlendirdiğimizde, o insanın bir bütün olarak daha iyi, daha kaliteli olduğunu söyleyebilelim…

Hemen bir takım itiraz seslerini duyar gibi oluyorum… Biliyorum, insan karmaşık bir yaratık… Bir ana, bir baba, bir arkadaş, bir patron, bir mühendis, bir doktor… İnsan aynı anda birden çok ve değişen kimliklere sahip… Ayrıca her kimliği, çalışkanlık, beceriklilik, kolaylık, rahatlık gibi yüzlerce özelliğin bileşkesinden oluşuyor. Karşılaştırmak gibi olmasın ama, insanın karmaşıklığı tıpkı uzay mekiğinin karmaşıklığı gibi hem kendisi hem de çevresindekiler tarafından doğru yönetilmeyi bunun için de doğru değerlendirilmeyi gerektiriyor.

Öyle ise nedir insanın kalitesinin ölçütleri? Günümüz Türkiye’sinde bu ölçütlerin doğru belirlenmesi ve var olanların iyileştirilmesi yurdumuzun başarı şansını hayati derecede etkileyecektir.

İnsan kalitesinin en önde gelen ölçütü kişinin bilgiye karşı aldığı tavırdır. Aynı zamanda bu görüş yalnızca bireyler için değil her türlü kurum, kuruluş ve şirket gibi sosyal organizasyonlar için de geçerlidir.

On beş yıl önce, Harvard Universitesinin Harvard Business Review adlı iş yönetimi konulu dergisinde (1993 Temmuz) "Öğrenen Bir Kuruluş İnşa Etmek" (Building a Learning Organisation) adlı makalede şunu bulmuştum:

"Öğrenen bir kuruluş bilgiyi yaratmak, edinmek ve nakletmekte ve kendi davranışını bu yeni bilgi ve sağduyuyu yansıtacak şekilde değiştirmekte usta olan kuruluştur."

Günümüz Türkiyesi ve dünya koşullarında bir kurum, kuruluş veya şirketin kalitesinin mihenk taşı bilgiye karşı aldığı tutumdur.

‘Pieta’, Michelangelo, 1508 – 1512 Roma, Sistine Chapel Çarmıhtan indirildiğinde, ‘tek başına yarattığı’ oğlu İsa’nın bile ‘ölümlü’ olduğu gerçeğini öğrenen Meryem

Öğrenmek bir hüzün… Öğrenmek bir esra…Urdu dili Hindistan’da belirli bir bölgede konuşulan kendine özgü edebiyatı olan, uluslar arası tanınıp bilinen bir dil… ‘Urdu’ Türkçe ‘ordu’ demek. 1994’te, tesadüfen, NASA’da çalışan bir urdu’nun yaptığı çok küçük bir URDU – İNGİLİZCE sözlüğünü bulmuştum internet’te… Kelimelerin telaffuzları İngilizce okunuş kurallarına göre yazılmıştı. Bunları ses olarak düşündüğümde çarpıcı bir gerçekle karşılaşmıştım. Kelimelerin büyük bir kısmını anlıyordum. Urdu dilinin dilbilgisi değil ama kelimelerinin büyük bir kısmı çocukluğumdaki Türkçe ile ortaktı…

Bu sözlüğün bir güzel yanı da kelimelerin hangi dilden geldiğini belirtmesi idi. Bir çok kelimenin Urdu’caya öz Türkçe’den geçtiği belirtiliyordu. Daha önceden anlamını bilmediğim bazı kelime ve özel isimler Farsça, Türkçe, Hinduca, Sanskritçe ve Yunanca’dan geliyordu… Çok sevdiğim bir isim olan ‘Esra’ da Urduca ‘zaruret’ anlamına geliyordu…

Esra aasraa means of subsistence, protection, shelter.

Evet, öğrenmek bir hüzün… Öğrenmek bir esra…

Türkiye’de öğrenen bir insan olmak… Zor… Atalarımız yüzyıllar boyu Orta Asya’dan Batı’ya, Güneye, Güney Doğuya göç etmişler. Üstelik bir kısmı da ipek yolu boyunca zaman zaman Batı’ya zaman zaman Doğu’ya göç etmişler… Oluşan Türk kültürünün bilgi ve görgü birikimi tarihte o noktaya varmış ki hiçbir güç onları durduramamış, Viyana’ya, Batı Akdeniz’e kadar gitmişler… Kültürümüz, bütün bu etkileşim ve tecrübelerin birikimini taşıyor içinde… Aslında ‘bizim’ dediğimiz şeylerin bazıları başka kültürlerden alınıp, arıtılıp damıtılıp bizim yapılmış. Örneğin ‘kolye’ kelimesi Fransızca ‘collier’ kelimesinden geliyor.

Bir Alman vatandaşı ile karşılaştırıldığında bir Türk’ün bilinçli olarak aynı kültürel sağlamlık ve denge içinde olması zor bir iş… Basit bir hesapla, bir Alman’ın İngilizce ve Fransızca belki biraz Latince bilmesi içinde bulunduğu coğrafyada başarılı olması için yeterli… Oysa bir Türk vatandaşı, Rusça, Farsça, Arapça, Rumca, Bulgarca, Ermenice, Yahudice, İngilizce, Almanca, Fransızca ile muhatap olmak durumunda kültür olarak… Coğrafyamız, dünya kültürünün beşiği… Bu eşsiz coğrafya’da öğrenen insan olmak zor… Hiçbir zaman her şeyi öğrenmek, tam anlamıyla başarmak şansınız yok çünkü… Yalnızca daha ne kadar çok şey öğrenebileceğinizin farkına varıyorsunuz, Türkiye’mizde, öğrendikçe…

Öğrenmek bir boy ölçüşmedir aynı zamanda… “Üniversiteye giden kişi orada verilen bilgilerle birlikte ama ondan daha önemlisi kendi boyunun ölçüsünü öğrenir”. Bir şeyler öğrendiğinizde öğrendiğiniz şeyi daha önce bildiklerinizle karşılaştırıp önemli veya önemsiz diye ayırırsınız… Aynı şekilde eskiden bildiğiniz şeyleri de yeni öğrendiğiniz şeye göre değerlendirme fırsatınız olur… Bir şeyler öğrendiğiniz sürece kendi değerinizi de böylece değerlendirme, kendi boyunuzun da ölçüsünü alma imkanınız olur.

Türkiye içinde bulunduğumuz dönemde Avrupa Birliğine girmek gibi çılgınca bir iddiaya kapılmış durumda... Ne kadar uzun süreye yayılırsa yayılsın, binlerce yıllık bir arıtma – damıtma işlemiyle oluşmuş kültürümüzün yetiştirdiği insanlarımızın Avrupa kültürü ile karşılaştıklarında ne gibi güçlükler doğacağını önceden ciddi ciddi düşünmek zorundayız…

İngiliz vatandaşları bütün Avrupa’da yalnız İngiliz dilini iyi bilmeleri nedeni ile üstün insan durumundadırlar. Yönetici pozisyonlar onlara verilir çünkü toplantı notlarını en iyi onlar tutar… Eğer toplumumuzu ve özellikle Avrupa’lılarla çalışacak olan kesimi hazırlamazsak insanlarımızda var olan her eksikliğin bedelini Avrupa’lılar bize nazik bir şekilde ve zevkle fatura edeceklerdir… Niye bizim insanımız nükleer santralde, cam fabrikasında insan sağlığını tehlikeye düşüren ve Avrupa’lının kendisinin yapmadığı işlerde çalışsın?

Evet, öğrenmek bir hüzün… Öğrenmek vazgeçilmez bir esra günümüz Türkü için…

Avrupa Birliğine girme konusunda büyüklerimizin içinde bulunduğu çılgınca iddia yeni bir şey değil aslında… Mustafa Kemal ATATÜRK’ünki harf devrimi, Türk eğitimini bütünüyle modernleştirmesi, takvimi Batılılaştırması düşünüldüğünde çılgınca bir iddia… Üstelik bunlar başarılmış iddialar… Batılılaşmada Mustafa Kemal’in başarısı yalnız bir takım yenilikleri almakla yetinmeyip bunların yanında büyük ve köklü kültürel reformlar yapmış olmasına dayanır.

Mustafa Kemal’in Türkiye’yi Avrupa’nın organik bir parçası yapmak iddiası yoktu. Nitekim “Türkiye Cumhuriyeti ilelebet payidar kalacaktır” demişti. Avrupa Birliğinin parçası olmak iddiasındaki günümüz yönetimleri Mustafa Kemal’den çok daha büyük bir çılgınca iddia peşindedirler… Üstelik bunu Mustafa Kemal’in reformlarından geri giden, çok yetersiz ve ne olduğu belirsiz bir eğitim politikası ile, Batı karşısında kendi milli değerlerimizin özünü atlayıp tamamen görüntüyü kurtarmaya yönelik şekilsel yöntemlerle, pratik ve kestirme çözümlerle gerçekleştirmeye çalışıyorlar. Oysa geçmişte Batı karşısında başarılı olmamızı sağlayan nedenler ve bu gün tekrar başarılı olmamızı sağlayabilecek yöntemler günlük siyasi kaygılardan ve şablonlardan uzak bir şekilde araştırılmalıdır. Kendi içinde kapanıp bir takım değerler yaratmak ve onlara göre kendini değerlendirmek zamanı geçmeli artık…

Avrupa’da yaşamış çalışmış olan herkes bilir. Avrupa’da Türk olmak zordur. Bir yandan Avrupa kültürünü öğrenmek öte yandan öğrendiğiniz şeylerle ilgili olarak kendi kültürünüzü yeniden gözden geçirmek, kendi tarafınızda bilmediklerinizi tamamlamak zorunda kalırsınız. Kendiniz hakkında bilmediğiniz bazı şeyler size karşı avantaj sağlamak için ve bu arada ‘artık’ farkına varmanız için size karşı kullanılır… Avrupa’da hem Batı’yla tanışırsınız hem de kendinizi daha iyi anlamaya başlarsınız. Mustafa Kemal öldükten sonra reformlarının hızının kesilmesi ile yaratılan içe kapanıklılığın, öte yandan Cumhuriyet öncesi döneme ve dinin toplum içindeki olumlu işlevlerine karşı yaratılan sırt çevirmenin etkilerini ve daha bir çok şeyi yaşarsınız. Avrupa’da yaşarken daha önce fark etmediğiniz bir çok ayrıntılı olguyu yoğun olarak gözler ve tecrübe edinirsiniz. Avrupa’da tek başına Türk olmak zordur. Hele Türkiye’nin Avrupa Birliğine girmesi durumunda bu tür kültürel yıkanma ve yenilenmelerin sağnak halinde 74 milyon Türk tarafından yaşanması acaba nasıl bir toplu psikolojik tecrübe olur?

Evet, öğrenmek bir hüzün… Öğrenmek bir esra günümüz Türkiyesi için…

Peki, atalarımız geçmişte nasıl başardılar Avrupa’dan Asya’ya kadar geniş bir coğrafya içinde ayakta kalmayı? Barbaros’un bir leventi, ipek yolunda göçmen bir kabile… 2007 Türkiye’si onlardan neler öğrenebilir? Sorunun anahtarı hareket eden ve etkileştiği kültürleri ordan oraya taşıyan bir göçebe kültüründe belki de… İyi bir postacı düşününüz… O ne yapar? Kendisine emanet edilen paketleri, canı gibi korur, üstünde yazan adresteki alıcısına ulaştırır. İyi bir postacı, kendisine emanet edilen paketi kurcalamaz, açıp içine bakmaz. Aslında, Türk kültürüne bakıldığında, farkında olmadan bir çok şeyi içerdiği, Doğu’dan Batı’ya, Batı’dan Doğu’ya taşıdığı gözlenebilir. Bizim kültürümüzde konuşmak o kadar kıymetli değildir. Örneğin Mimar Sinan’ın yaptığı camiler dışında fazla bir yazıp bıraktığı şey yoktur. Hatta fazla konuşup herşeyi anlatan kişiler pek sevilmez bzim kültürümüzde, dokuz köyden kovulur. Bizim kültürümüz taşlarda, kağıtlarda değil insanların üzerinde yaşar. Taa uzaklardan gelen, gizli bir mesajdır Türk insanı. Uzağa giden biri ne getireyim diye sorduğunda “Kendini getir, yeter” deriz. Çünkü biz esrayı insanda ararız, başka yerde değil…

Öğrenmek bir hüzün, öğrenmek bir esra…

Öğrenmek her zaman bir hüzün olmak zorunda değil tabii… Öğrendiğiniz şey ne olursa olsun, sizin kendi içinizde bir şeyler varsa eğer… Öyle bir şeyler ki, her şeyinizin nedenini niçinini tartışmaya açabiliyorsanız, ve kendi, yalnız kendi özgüveninizle kabul edebiliyorsanız yanlışlarınızı, zayıflıklarınızı hiç tereddütsüz…. Gerektiğinde binlerce yıl önceki ecdadınızın kemiklerini inceleyecek yada milletçe topyekun yok olacağınız günün tarihini öğrenmek isteyecek kadar çılgınca cesursanız… Gerektiğinde Anadolu’muzun Meryemi gibi sessiz bir hüzünle gülümseyebiliyorsanız, öğrendiğiniz gerçeğe… O zaman BRAVO kelimesinin anlamını öğrenebilirsiniz Batı kültüründe…

‘Bravo’, Tizian, 1520, Viena GalerisiBravo, İtalyan’ca usta katil, hırsız anlamına gelir. Yeni bir şey bulan bir bilim adamı, bir sanatçı, insanlık kültürüne katkıda bulunan bir kişi ‘Bravo’ denerek alkışlanır… Yapılan hırsızlık, insanlığın potansiyel kültür birikiminden ustaca ve başkaları çalamadan yapılmıştır… Resimin mesajı, usta hırsızın kendisinden önce gelenin yakasına yapışıp ondan bir şey alması, öte yandan sol elindeki bıçağı tehdit gibi kullanmasıdır. Fakat dikkatli bakılırsa, bıçağın yalnızca kabzasının gözüktüğü ve bunun aynı zamanda bir kitap taşıma rulosunun sapı da olabileceği… Silahın bıçak kısmındaki beyazlığın dikkatli bakılırsa çok küçük bir ilham perisi gibi de değerlendirilebileceği… Her iki adamın yüz ifadeleri… Aslında usta hırsız sağ eli ile kendisinden önce gelenden çaldığını sol eli ile kendisinden sonra gelene çaktırmadan uzatıyor, bence… Dikkat ederseniz, Batı müziği konserlerinde orkestra şefleri eser ve icra beğenilirse, alkışlar sırasında seyirciye döner, sehpasının trabzanına tutunur ve alabildiğine boynunu eğer seyircisine… tıpkı Roma’da MS 100 yıllarında birbirleri ile ölesiye döğüşen gladyatörlerin kralın önüne gelip selam verip boyunlarını onun vereceği karara uzatmaları gibi… Bence konserde veya başka bir olayda doğru ve medeni olan yalnız alkışlamaktır. Ama alkışlanan kişi onca başarısına karşın, sizin önünüzde boyun eğiyorsa ancak o zaman, o kişinin boyun eğdiği süre içinde, kısaca ve duyulabilir şekilde birilerinin ‘Bravo’ demesi gerekir.

Geçen yıl BİLKENT Üniversitesinin düzenlediği bir Müzik konferansında, davet üzerine , Mental Risks in Musical Composition adlı makalemi sunmuştum. Makale konuyu özellikle yaratıcılık açısından irdeliyordu. Bu makale daha önce ITU MIAM 2004 konferansı için yazmış olduğum aynı adlı 26 sayfa uzunlukta İngilizce bir metnin 3-4 sahifeye indirilmesi ve Pieta vb konuların eklenmesini içeriyordu.

Kitap tanıtımlarına giriş

Alman Nazileri tarafından toplama kampı veya gaz odasında ölüme götürülmemek için Yahudi ailelerin bazıları Avrupa’dan Amerika’ya kaçabilmişti II. Dünya savaşı sırasında. Reader’s Digest adlı Amerikan aile dergisinde okumuştum… Yaşlı bir Amerikan Yahudisi bayan 40’lı yıllardaki küçüklüğünde ailesi ile birlikte Almanya’dan nasıl kaçtığını anlatıyordu…

Nazi’lerin çok yaklaştığı sırada, Yahudi aile bir çiftlik evinin bodrumundan yapılmış sığınakta saklanmak zorunda kalır. Uzun süre yemek, uyku ve tuvalet ihtiyaçlarını hep aynı kapalı mekanda gidermek zorunda kalacaklardır… Küçük kızın babası Naziler gelmeden önceki bir kaç saat içinde onu son bir defa bahçeye çıkartır… Ona “Bak, şimdi son bir defa bu bahar kokusunu kokla, temiz havayı içine çek! Onu küçük küçük paketler yapıp cebine koy… İçeride kalacağımız süre boyunca canın sıkıldığında o küçük paketleri tek tek aç, bu anı, bu temiz havayı hatırla!” der.

Gerçekten kişinin depresif olduğu ya da uyku uyuyamadığı durumlarda psikologların tavsiye ettiği bir kişisel mücadele şeklidir, geçmişte yaşadığınız güzel bir anı kafanızda canlandırmak… Uzmanı değilim ama tekrar tekrar gözüme çarpan bir olgu, Yahudi kültürünün gerçeği kavramaktaki ustalığı. Bu ustalık bazen çok kısa vadeli ve kişisel amaçlı olarak kullanılabildiği gibi bazen de atom bombasını yapan bilim adamı grubundaki bazı yahudilerin yaptığı gibi, atom bombasının tek kişinin elinde olmasını engellemeye cüret edebilecek, onu Rus tarafına sızdıracak, çılgınca bir cesarete dönüşebiliyor zaman zaman…

Mısır firavunlarının zamanından, binlerce yıl öncenin sağduyusundan gelip, binlerce yıl sonraki kendi varlığını ve dolayısıyla insan varlığını korumaya cesaret edebilen bireylerin kültürü… Levanten kültürü, Ceneviz denizcilik becerisi, iletişim ustalığı, seyrüsefer yeteneği, küçük bir mekanda, gemide korkunç dalgalara ve bilinmeyene karşı yol alan bir ekibin psikolojisi, ticaretin insan halinden anlama yeteneği…

Ülkemizin Avrupa Birliğine yaklaştığı bir dönemdeyiz. Üstelik, eskisi gibi yalnızca faydacı bir anlayıştan öte, Avrupa kültürünün bir parçası olmak, onu da kendimizin bir parçası yapmak iddiası bile söz konusu… Bu durumda, gözümüze ilişen her güzel taşı kapıp çantamıza koymak yerine, aldıklarımızı biraz incelememiz, bunlar nereden gelmiş, nasıl gelişmiş, neyin devamı olarak ortaya çıkmış diye biraz sorgulamamız gerekmez mi?

İnsan gerçeği tektir… Her şeyin başlangıcı insandır. Ama her kültür birbirinden farklıdır. Basit bir diferansiyel denklemin bile farklı başlangıç koşulları vardır. O denklemin çözümü, başlangıç anında nerede olduğunuza, başlangıçta seçtiğiniz yöne, başlangıç hızına ve hangi güçle o işe giriştiğinize bağlıdır. Dikkat edilirse insan kültürü de bu denklemlerden oluşmuş canlı-dinamik bir sistemden çok farklı değildir…

Avrupa kültüründen faydalanırken ona katkıda bulunan Yahudi ticareti, Ceneviz denizciliği, Yunan felsefesi gibi kültürel değerleri ve bunların etkilerini iyi tartabilmek gerekir… Bunu sağlıklı yapabilmek, Avrupa kültürünü anlayabilmek ve ona katkıda bulunabilmek için de kendi kültürümüzü, dinimizi çok iyi bilmek ve anlamak gerekir.

Avrupalı dostlarımız, herkese farklı görünür der ama insan gerçeği tektir. İnsan doğar, yaşar, ölür… Belki insan kültürünün başlangıç noktaları aynıdır ama başlangıçtan bu yana geçen binlerce yıl düşünüldüğünde, kültürün dinamik denklem sisteminin birden çok doğru cevabı vardır. Batıda her gördüğümüz doğru bize ait her şeyin yanlış olduğu anlamına gelmez. Kendi yanlışlarımızı bulup düzelttiğimiz her durumda da, Batı’nın bunu görüp doğru değerlendirebilmesini beklememiz çocukça bir yaklaşım olur. Önemli olan kendimiz için, kendimize uyanı, kendimize yakışanı, bize yaraşan şekilde yapmaktır.

Bu yazım ile birlikte gerek Batı’dan gerek Doğu’dan çeşitli kitap tanıtımlarına başlayacağım. Bunlar arasında Thucydides’in Peleponnes Savaşı, Çin’den Sun Tzu’nun Savaş Sanatı, Gershon Winkler’in Kabbalah 365, Tibet Budizmi, Bury’nin Yunan Tarihi, Akurgal’ın Hitit Tarihi, Heredot Tarihi, İspanya’dan Gracian’ın Sağduyu Sanatı gibi kitaplar olacak… Ayrıca Mevlana’dan Mesnevi, anonim Kutad Gubilig, Dede Korkut Hikayeleri gibi kaynaklara da değinmek niyetindeyim… Bu hafta Ankara Fen Lisesinden dostum San Diego’da psikiyatrist profesor Mehmet DOKUCU’nun tanımama vesile olduğu NPR National Public Radio – Amerikan Milli Halk Radyosu’nda dinlediğim bir internet programından bahsetmek istiyorum… Bu program son haftalardan birinde “Yapışan Düşünceler” adlı bir kitabın tanıtımını yaptı. Programi dinledikten sonra editörümüz, ağabeyim Niyazi Bey ile de üzerinde konuştuk. Sonuçta Niyazi internetten kitabın bir kısmının manuscriptini buldu ve benim bu yazıyı yazmamı ısrarla istedi. Sık sık iş seyahatlerine çıkan bir tüccar akşam otel odasında sıkılmış bara inip bir içki içmiş. Daha sonra barda tanıştığı bir bayan ile sohbet etmeye başlamış. Bayan kendisine bir içki ısmarlamayı teklif etmiş daha sonra içkileri kendi eli ile bardan alıp getirmiş. İş adamının daha sonra hatırladığı ilk şey odasında buz dolu bir banyo küvetinde uyandığı... Küvetin kenarına bırakılmış notu okuduğu… Notta hemen ilk yardıma telefon etmesi ve kuvetin içinde sakin sakin beklemesi gerektiği yazılı… Ayrıca elini sırtına doğru götürürse bir sonda bulacağı çünkü böbreklerinden birinin çalınmış olduğu…

Bu böbrek hırsızlığı hikayesi yapışıcı… Çünkü bunu anlıyoruz, ezberliyoruz ve başka birine tekrar anlatabiliyoruz… Ve eğer doğru olduğuna inanırsak davranış biçimimiz kalıcı olarak değişmiş olabilir – en azından çekici yabancıların içki tekliflerini doğru değerlendirmek konusunda…

Bazı düşünceler kendi yapısı gereği ilgi çekici, bazıları ise içsel olarak ilgi çekici değil… Doğuştan veya yetiştirerek ikilemine göre – düşünceler ilginç olarak mı doğar yoksa geliştirilebilirler mi? Dünyada başarılı olmaları için düşüncelerimizi nasıl geliştiririz? İyi düşünceler bu dünyada başarılı olmakta güçlük çekiyorlar. Peki, doğru, değerli bir düşüncenin anlattığımız gibi gerçek olmayan bir hikayenin etkinliği ile dünyayı dolaşmasını sağlamak mümkün mü?

Günlük hayatımız ilginç fakat duygusal olmayan, gerçek ama kafayı darmadağın etmeyecek, önemli fakat ‘ölüm kalım meselesi’ olmayan düşüncelerle dolu… Düşünceleriniz kendi yetenekleri üzerinde kendi başlarına durabilmeli… Yapışmaktan kastımız düşüncelerinizin anlaşılır ve ezberlenebilir ve uzun ömürlü bir etki sahibi olması – izleyici kitlenizin düşüncelerini ve davranışlarını değiştirmesi… “Tuzu verir misiniz” sözünün hatırlanabilir olması gerekmez… Yani her düşüncenin ‘yapışıcı’ olması gerekmez.

İletişim üzerine tavsiye aldığımızda, dik durmak, göz temasını korumak, uygun el jestleri yapmak, söyleyeceğiniz şeyi prova, prova, prova, söylediğiniz şeyi tekrar, tekrar, tekrar, gibi teknikler defalarca hatırlatılır… Fakat konuya yapılan vurgunun zayıflığı dikkat çekicidir… Bir öğretmen etkin konuşmayı bilir – vücut durma şekli-posture, telaffuz ve göz teması… Amacı açıktır, izleyici açıktır, biçim açıktır… Fakat eğer mesajın kendisinin tasarımı yetersiz ise başarılı olamaz o öğretmen…

Bu düşünceler niye yapışkan? Neyin yapıştığını anlamak ve araştırmak gerekir... Beklenmedik tehlike… Hikayenin temel duyguları tetiklemesi – korku, iğrenme… Hiç beklenmeyen bir sonuç… Elle tutulur somut detaylar…

- Basitlik: Düşüncelerimizin temel anadüşüncesini nasıl buluruz? Bir düşünceyi en yalın haline indirgemek için sürekli neyin önemli olduğunu belirlemeliyiz. Basit ve dolu dolu düşünceler bulmalıyız… Bir cümlelik bir ifade bir insanın uygulayabilmesi için bir ömür harcayacağı bir dolulukta olmalı…
- Umulmamışlık: İnsanların düşüncelerimizi dikkate almaları ve düşüncelerin anlaşılması zaman alırken onların ilgilerini sürdürmeyi nasıl beceririz? İnsanların beklentilerini kırmamız gerekir. Sezilebilir olmamamız gerekir. Şaşırtabiliriz – böylece insanların uyanıklığını arttırıp dikkatlerini toplayabilir – ilgilerini yakalayabiliriz… İlgi ve merak uyandırmalıyız. İnsanların bilgileri dahilinde boşluklar yaratıp bunları teker teker doldurarak onların meraklarını uzun bir zaman canlı tutabiliriz.
- Elle tutulabilir, somut oluş: Düşüncelerimizi nasıl açık ve kolay anlaşılır yapabiliriz? Düşüncelerimizi insan hareketleri ve duyuları cinsinden açıklamalıyız. Doğal olarak yapışkan düşünceler buz dolu küvet gibi somut şeylere dayanır çünkü beyinlerimiz somut şeyleri hatırlayacak şekilde yaratılmıştır. Atasözlerinde soyut gerçekler genellikle somut bir dil ile ifade edilmiştir.
- İnanılabilirlik: İnsanların bizim düşüncelerimize inanmasını nasıl sağlarız? Yapışan düşünceler kendi inanılırlıklarını taşımalı…
- Duygular: İnsanların düşüncelerimizi ciddiye almalarını nasıl sağlarız? Onların bir şeyler duymalarını sağlayarak. Biz insanlar bir şeyler duymak için yaratıldık, soyutlamalar için değil… Düşüncemize hangi duyguyu bağlamak gerektiğini belirlemek işin zor yanı burada…
- Hikayeler: İnsanların düşüncelerimiz üzerine harekete geçmesini nasıl sağlarız? Hikaye anlatırız. İtfaiyeciler eski hikayelerini defalarca anlatır dururlar, bu yüzden daha zengin bir kritik durum ruhi kataloğuna sahiptirler. Bilimsel araştırmalar göstermiştir ki bir durumu zihinsel olarak tekrar etmek o durumla gerçek ortamda karşılaştığımızda davranışlarımızın daha başarılı olmasını sağlar.

Bir düşüncenin yapışmasını sağlayan altı koşul bunlardır fakat dünyada ehliyetli ‘düşünce yapıştırıcı uzmanı’ diye bir şey yoktur… Ayrıca madem bu kadar basit niye dünyadaki her düşünce yapışıcı değil? Bu hikayede bir de cani var ne yazık ki… Bu caninin ismi ‘Bilginin Laneti’…

1990’larda yapılan bir araştırıda bir grup kişiye 120 şarkının ritmlerini elle vurdurtmuşlar. Diğer grup ta bunları dinleyip hangi şarkılar olduğunu çıkartmaya çalışmışlar… Yalnız 2-3 tanesini bilebilmişler… Elle ritm vuran kişi, yani tıklatıcı şarkıyı kafasında duyar. Tıklatıcı olmak zordur. Tıklatıcılar şarkı adı verilerek, dinleyicilerin duyamayacağı bir şeyi, şarkınn ezgisini kafalarında duyup elle tıklatacak bilgiye sahip kılınmışlar… Şarkı ritmini tıklatırken, dinleyicilerin kopuk kopuk tık sesleri duyduklarını hayal etme imkanları yok… Çünkü kendileri o ritmleri tıklatabilmek için ismi kendilerine verilen şarkıyı kafalarında canlandırmak zorundalar… İşte bu ‘Bilginin Laneti’… Ne kadar çok bilgi edinirsek bilgimizi başkaları ile paylaşmamız o kadar güçleşir, dinleyicilerimizin ruh haletini canlandırmamız imkansız hale gelir.

‘Bilginin Laneti’ni yenmenin iki yolu vardır… Hiç öğrenmemek ya da düşüncelerimizi alıp onları dönüştürmek…

MENTAL RISKS IN THE MUSIC COMPOSITION PROCESS - presented at BİLKENT's Music conference at Istanbul in 2005

Abstract---This article will discuss the mental risks in the music composition process from the points of responsibility and psychology of creativity.

Today, many professions do not have a standard for training and educating its fellow workers about the risks of health they will face during their career. Currently, the student or the young professional is driven to the edge of its ability by incentives. If he/she can survive the fierce competition both he and the society wins. If he can not, he fails in health and goes down, and society tries to compensate with the insurance policies if available. At the end, society drives itself forward but at what expense?

An early warning system embedded in the professional education would not only give the individual the right to choose but also it would bring a flexibility to the system. If individuals had the possibility to choose to play a long term game rather than serve short term needs, they would have a better chance to be more successful personally and be more beneficial to the society.

What could be a profession's early warning system of health risks? Giving information, educating the individual before things get bad could give his instinctions an immense chance to make healthy-appropriate choices. Being informed could also reduce the pain at the most critical moment of the health problem, the first acute crisis. Can you imagine a person experiencing for the first time, hearing voices speaking to him from the radio, or on the street? If he new what hallucination is and if he were prepared, he would not get terrified...

Music composition is prone to psychological risks like any other creative profession [Jamison]. The composer has to hear sounds, melodies or even orchestral music in his/her mind. How will he describe his experience? From a spectrum of sensation to hallucination: here-and-now, re-centering, projection or stereotype, hallucination, inner image [McKim, p. 50].

In the preface of his book, The Paranoid Process, Meissner indicates that "the psychotic processes of much more primitive and disturbed patients was also identifiable in relatively healthy and far less maladapted human beings". He goes further to add " I saw that my patients and I were dealing with similar problems, utilizing our common human resources in attempts to define and resolve basic problems of human experience and existence from which none of us could escape" [Meissner, preface].

In my pristine article, you will be able to find some of the mental risks of the composer caused by the composition process such as ‘imagining moods’, working with different sensory modalities, extreme abstraction, designing large systems, issues of creativity, interaction with the environment and society.

In this presentation, I would like to focus on two of them related to creativity because of their facility to describe verbally.

Tizian’s picture ‘Bravo’ of 1520 describes a a killer or stealer holding a man from his cloth close to his neck from his back. The stealer holds his knife at his back down at his belt.
The blade of the knife can not be seen because it stays out of the frame of the picture. The name of the picture ‘bravo’ stands for skillfull stealer or killer in Italian. When one hesitates to draw conclusions, it is possible to believe that it may not be a killer because the knife cannot be seen.
The picture actually shows a man taking something from an other one standing in front of him and giving it back or down with his other hand…

What Tizian inspires me is a crucial aspect of human creativity. As a composer you have to take from your predecessors both by their teachings and studying their works. On the other hand you have to pass some to the people coming after you while building a strong castle for your own individuality. The knowledge of humanity, our reservoir is not endless. While knowledge creates more knowledge there is no rule that creation and consumption rates should be the same. Also the ambition to create effects the quality of the work created, sometimes with detrimental effects to the material used… During the composition process, the composer is faced with a conscientiousness dilemma, ‘Shall I steal this or leave it to others who will be at the right time for it?’ or ‘This is gorgious, shall I let it go, shall I pass it over?’

Michelengelo’s Pieta shows ‘the crucified Christ lying in his mother's lap’. I believe, the mother holds his son in such a feeling that, she comes to the grips with the reality of her son’s death. In fact she holds what she has created, her own work with the deep looks of appreciation and acception for the finiteness of it.

Through all his work the composer has to come to similar grips about his work, on how finite it is. Actually, this is a common problem between people that deal with Large Systems. There are articles on ‘When to stop testing’ in aviation or air traffic control systems. Also, even when these experts decide to stop testing, they always have the same look as Maria Magdelena… Regardless of the physical and real safety created, the creator has a special psychological mood at the end, similar to a mother holding her newly born child with an unrelenting question at her subconscious.

Sometimes a psychiatrist needs 2-3 years to understand his patient truly. While there are some broad categories or psychologic ilnesses, there are still many new developments in the identification of subgroups which may have specific curing approaches. Sometimes this may cause the doctors to use the upper limit of medicine doses, specially in acute cases as a remedy for the loss of time.

Anybody who is trying to become a successful composer should have him/herself checked at the beginning and during the education, specially during counterpoint, fugue, styles analysis studies. It is natural to have an athlete live under doctor control when preparing for the olympics. It is exactly the same for a composition student or a composer involved in heavy production.
