When you shoot at an enemy at night, you will be shot back many more...
If you shout at a person, you will get hurt... Your nerves will break...
Whatever you do to an other person, infact you do it to yourself...
Because ‘no body is a lone island, far from the continent’ as Donne said...
Our identity as a human-being gets hurt at least, when we hurt an other human-being...
On the other side, when society hurts an individual because of
not well - educating every and each of its individuals and
not taking enough precautions to stop commercialization of violance...
The society has to pay the bill... of keeping that criminal alive for life time...
In whatever form it may be necessary to do so...
By the way,
it is easy for me to say this, as I have no authority and responsibility arising from it...
Nevertheless, I would like to allude to Sartre,
It is not enough to think right, one should act with the right method,
if one exists.

The golden rule, I agree with you: if we hurt, we hurt ourselves.

Thanks for your thoughts on this important human rights issue. As the Preamble to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights reminds us, “…recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world.”
Dave Donelson, author of Heart of Diamonds
wise words.
i agree with you in acknowledging the society's responsibility for the crimes of the individual. however, as you might agree with, this can only be partial responsibility and the individual must answer for his own actions.
Death penalty, and corporal punishment in general are no simple issue, there are regional and cultural differences
i hope we live in a world where we don't need death penalty...
